Overview
While working freelance, I was hired to create a logo and branding for a company in Oklahoma City. Yellow Jacket Construction is Oklahoma Cities choice for any roofing and construction needs. They are growth-focused, create quality builds, and are community-driven. During our initial discussion, the owner wanted to focus on the more intellectual and design background in the construction industry. Another must have was for the design to be blue as it would stand apart from their competitors in the area.
Years later, my logo continues to represent the Yellow Jacket Construction brand and has become a recognizable symbol for this amazing company around the Oklahoma City area and beyond.
DESIGN DECISIONS
When talking to the owner, he wanted to keep the yellow jacket imagery to tie into the name of the company working as a pictorial mark. The shapes that make up the yellow jacket are geometric in nature and tie to ideas of technology, structure, and efficiency. The use of two colors throughout the body of the yellow jacket works to further communicate the idea of the stripes of the yellow jacket. The bottom half of the yellow jacket also holds a secret design of a pencil drawing in the more logistical side of the construction industry. Using navy as the background color helps with readability and legibility. It also makes the words and the mark itself pop and catch the viewer’s eyes.
